Vic Hopkins & Son have been providing high quality meat produce to the people of Barry and the Vale of Glamorgan for over 50 years and full traceability is offered on all of our products whether it’s Welsh or Scotch Beef, the very best Welsh Lamb or locally produced Prime Pork.

We area a traditional Family Butchers where quality and service come first. We are happy to take the time to discuss your requirements, offer tips and cooking advice to enable you to create the perfect meal every time. Nothing is too much trouble, you ask and we can do it!

Vic Hopkins is now retired but still likes to call into the shop and help out when he can. He started working at the shop in 1960. In those days it was owned by local butcher, the late Aaron Rees, and then Jack Trezise who retired in 1968. This is when Vic took ownership of the shop and the family has been there ever since.

Anthony Hopkins, Vic’s son, has been working in the shop since 1984 and took over the reins in 2005 when his father retired. “Customer shopping habits have changed dramatically over the years and we’ve adapted our business to suit these changes, whoever thought that we’d be selling meat on The Internet but that’s progress for you!”

Anthony’s wife, Heidi, has joined “The Team” and has developed a very tasty range of Mrs H’s “Meals to Go” including Faggots, Peas & Gravy, Lasagne, and Cottage or Shepherd’s Pie all made on the premises and cooked fresh daily. Perfect for lunchboxes and much healthier and cheaper than fast food! In the past few months, Grant, Anthony’s brother-in-law, has also joined “The Team” although you won’t see him much in the shop as he is behind the scenes working on the website and organisation. But he also makes all of our sausages! An even newer member of “The Team” is Grant’s son (Anthony’s nephew), Daniel, who has just started an apprenticeship in the shop and hopes to carry on the traditional art of butchery that his uncle (and Vic) will teach him. As you can see this is a true Family Butchers! Our other members of “The Team”, who we regard as family, are Ryan Corrigan and Trevor Thompson. Trevor has been with us for over 10 years and in the butchery trade for nearly 40 years! His knowledge and experience is an integral part of “The Team”. Ryan joined us in 2016. He is a trained chef and has brought in some fantastic new ideas and recipes. Add to that his ever-growing knowledge of butchery means he is also an essential and important member of “The Team”. One person we also have to mention is Les Ingram. Les retired in September 2017 at the grand age of 70! He was with us for over 20 years and was a fantastic butcher who virtually ran the shop. He is missed by us all but don’t worry you will still see him occasionally in the shop as he covers for us when staff are away on holiday. We just can’t let him go!

Lunchtime’s are very busy due to the fact that Mrs H’s Homemade Pies, Pasties, and Sausage Rolls have just come out of the oven…. Chicken, Bacon & Leek; Steak & Ale; Lamb & Mint or our ever-changing Pie of The Month. Our home-cooked pasties include: Cornish; Corned Beef and Lamb Curry; Our Royal Welsh Pork Sausage Rolls usually sell out first!

Mrs H’s Kitchen also offers Breaded Gammon Ham, Honey Roast Ham, Roast Loin of Pork, and Roast Silverside of Beef. All cooked fresh on the premises and sliced as required, no pre-packed plastic here!! Have you tried our Homemade Polony? People come from miles around for it.
